Print and give

A label for the kimchi you give

Print a sheet, cut them out, and write the day you made it. The QR code on each label opens our kimchi recipe, so whoever gets the jar can make the next one.

Print it

  1. Print from a computer

Open this page and choose File, then Print: Command-P on a Mac, Ctrl+P on Windows. Only the labels print, eight to a letter page.

  2. Keep it at actual size

Print at 100% or “Actual size”, with headers and footers off, so the QR code scans.

  3. Pick the paper

Full-sheet sticker paper, cut along the dashed lines. Or plain paper, taped on or tied on with string.

  4. Fill it in

Write the day you made it and your name. Then the jar's ready to give.

The sheet prints eight labels to a letter page, each 3½ by 2¼ inches.

Pack the jar to give

  1. A clean pint jar

One napa cabbage makes about 2 quarts: four pint jars to give.

  2. Press it down

Spoon the kimchi in and press it down to push out the air. Leave about an inch at the top.

  3. Wipe the rim

Wipe the rim clean, then put on the lid and the label.

  4. Into the fridge

Just made? Give it its 1 to 2 days at room temperature first, as in the recipe. Then keep it in the fridge until you go.

  5. Carry it in a towel

And tell them to open it over the sink: kimchi that's ripening can bubble.

Make the kimchi

Napa kimchi takes an afternoon and a cabbage: the kimchi recipe. Short on time? Quick kimchi is ready the same day.

Kimchi to give? Start with flake.

Flake is the cut for kimchi: about ½ to 1 cup for one napa cabbage. You check out on Amazon.
